Hello! I am a 2011 graduate of the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine (OCOM) and I also studied for a year prior to that at the Institute for Clinical Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in Honolulu, Hawaii. I am currently enrolled in OCOM’s two-year Doctoral program and have been practicing in Portland, Oregon since 2012. On my second trip to China in 2011, I interned in two Nanjing hospitals under highly-esteemed medical herbalists and acupuncturists through the Nanjing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Recently, I completed a mentorship at Fujian University of Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital as well. As a board certified medical Chinese herbalist I often prescribe herbal formulas and other supplements alongside treatment. In addition to acupuncture, electro-stimulation acupuncture, herbal formulas and Tuina massage, I also use non-local (Dr. Tung) needling styles and extra-gentle techniques appropriate for treating children. Some of those are non-insertive techniques such as Shonishin.
A few of my specialties include women’s health, pain management and pediatric care. Pain conditions of every sort are what bring most new patients in, as acupuncture has a well-established reputation for its practical treatment of any kind of pain. Acupuncture easily restores optimal function post-surgeries, injuries and accidents. This includes everything from healing after motor vehicle accidents (MVA) to everyday sports injuries. Oregon is a no-fault state for drivers, which means that any insured person involved in a car accident can be covered for necessary care in Oregon as a minimal requirement Personal Injury Protection (PIP) insurance coverage.
There are other great benefits acupuncture offers beyond pain management and the healing of diseased tissues. For instance: stress reduction, hormonal regulation, improved sleep, digestion and energy. Auto-immune conditions and other so-called ‘syndromes’ such as Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, Fibromyalgia, Complex Regional Pain Syndrome and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome respond wonderfully to Chinese medicine therapies as a result of acupuncture’s direct and gentle yet powerful influence over the endocrine and immune systems. I enjoy helping women gracefully work through hormonal transitions cause problems. From the menstrual cycle to fertility concerns, throughout the changes and needs of pregnancy, the postpartum phase, as well as peri-menopause and postmenopausal years, acupuncture offers to females seeking balance. Men, don’t feel left out! Of course, men’s issues of all sorts can benefit from acupuncture too! Parents, I love treating children and believe it or not, almost all of the kids in my practice love their treatments as well! These little sparks of fire and joy animate our world and remind us of the essence of who we once were and are a welcome joy in my practice. Teenagers, younger kids and yes, babies make for some the most rewarding patients. Their youthful systems respond so quickly to just a light nudge, be that acupuncture, Tuina massage or Shonishin (uses non-insertive tools). The big trick is keeping the whole family system in balance as if all parts depended on each other, because they do. This is why we are a family clinic. We recognize that our work is applicable to each member of any given family, from child to adult, no matter where you show up in the great family of our global community.
You are an ideal patient for me if you are seeking extra support along your health journey for any complaints related to having a physical, mental or emotional body. Why struggle with the limitations of aches and pain or even the emotional burden of a difficult or strange diagnosis when there are practitioners like myself who have dedicated their time to learning how to help you heal. Ideally, we must understand that attaining optimal health isn’t just a one time occasion. Real health is a process. All the parts of you are intertwined in creating a healthy whole. Accepting responsibility for your own wellness is a journey of empowerment. I invite you to allow me to walk with you on your healing path and accept the nurturing that comes from my heart.
I willingly collaborate on integrative care treatment plans with doctors and other medical providers and understand that a well-rounded and integrative approach is the best approach for my patients. Feel free to call or email with any questions. I offer free fifteen minute consults by request (if I am not available immediately). I welcome inquiries regarding my experience and advice at anytime during such a consult. I am in-network with most insurance companies and I am accepting new motor vehicle accident patients using their auto insurance claim as well. Please call your health insurance in advance to find out if you have acupuncture benefits and if preauthorization or a referral is needed first (such as can be the case with Regence, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Moda and some Kaiser plans).
