Hello! I am a 2011 graduate of the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine (OCOM) and I also studied for a year prior to that at the Institute for Clinical Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in Honolulu, Hawaii. I am currently enrolled in OCOM’s two-year Doctoral program and have been practicing in Portland, Oregon since 2012. On my second trip to China in 2011, I interned in two Nanjing hospitals under highly-esteemed medical herbalists and acupuncturists through the Nanjing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Recently, I completed a mentorship at Fujian University of Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital as well. As a board certified medical Chinese herbalist I often prescribe herbal formulas and other supplements alongside treatment. In addition to acupuncture, electro-stimulation acupuncture, herbal formulas and tuina massage, I also use non-local (Dr. Tung) needling styles and extra-gentle techniques appropriate for treating children. Some of those are non-insertive techniques such as shonishin.
A few of my specialties include women’s health, pain management and pediatric care. Acupuncture has a well-established reputation for its practical treatment of any kind of pain, so pain is what brings in most new patients. If you need to restore optimal function post-surgery, injury or car accident, I have a much to offer. Oregon drivers live in a no-fault state, meaning that anyone involved in a car accident can get acupuncture care in Oregon through their Personal Injury Protection (PIP) insurance coverage.
There are other benefits acupuncture offers beyond pain management and the healing of diseased tissues. For instance: stress reduction, inflammation reduction, hormonal regulation, improved sleep, plus improved digestion and energy. Autoimmune conditions and other so-called ‘syndromes’ such as polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), fibromyalgia, complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) and chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) respond very well to Chinese medicine therapies through acupuncture’s direct and gentle yet powerful influence over the endocrine and immune systems. I enjoy helping women gracefully work through hormonal transitions— from menstrual and fertility concerns to needs throughout the cycle of pregnancy and postpartum recovery phases, as well as the peri-menopausal and postmenopausal years— acupuncture and herbal formulas are a great compliment to bring balance back to our natural state. Men’s issues of all sorts can also benefit from acupuncture! Certainly men have hormonal needs that can be balanced and a distinctive system that can be balanced throughout the many changes of life.
If you are a parent you should know that I love treating children! Similarly, the kids in my practice grow to love their sessions for acupuncture, tuina and non-insertive acupuncture as well! Their little lives bring sparks of fire and joy to our world, reminding us of our original essence. Your children are always a welcome part of my practice. That includes teenagers, younger kids and toddlers, and yes, even babies. After all, the youngest among us make for some the most rewarding patients. Babies youthful systems respond so quickly to just a light nudge. They can often be treated effectively with one or two quick taps of an ‘in and out’ needle, and what a difference it makes! The big trick is keeping the whole family system in balance as if all parts depended on each other, because they do. This goes back to our core of being is a family clinic. The work of wellness is applicable to each family member, from youth to elder, no matter where you show up in the great many family circles that you belong to.
You are an ideal patient for me if you are seeking extra support along your health journey for complaints related to having a physical, mental or emotional body. All I ask is for your willingness. There is no need to struggle with the limitations of aches and pain or even the emotional burden of a difficult diagnosis when there are practitioners who have dedicated their time to learning how to help your body to heal. Ideally, we must understand that attaining optimal health isn’t a one time occasion. Real health is a process. All the parts of you are intertwined in creating a healthy whole. Accepting responsibility for your own wellness is to journey into personal empowerment. I invite you to accept new help along your healing path and the nurturing that comes from a human heart, mine to yours.
I willingly collaborate on integrative care treatment plans with doctors and other medical providers and understand that a well-rounded and integrative approach is ideal for my patients. Feel free to call or email with any questions. I offer fifteen to thirty minute consults by request for you to inquire regarding my experience and prognosis for your care. I am in-network with most insurance companies and I accept new motor vehicle accident patients as well. Please call your insurance in advance to find out if your plan has acupuncture benefits, and if preauthorization or a referral is needed first (such as can be the case with Regence, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Moda, Kaiser and some Providence plans).
